China's actions on anthropogenic emissions

Abstract:

Klimatická změna je důležitým procesem, který postihuje a v budoucnu ovlivní život na naší planetě. Globální oteplování je zapříčiněno zejména vysokými antropogenními emisemi v čele s emisemi CO2. Čína jako největší emitent v tomto případě hraje klíčovou roli a její politiky budou důležité pro změnu přístupu k energetice na globální úrovni. Cílem této práce je tedy zkoumání přístupu Číny k omezování emisí CO2, se zaměřením na její energetický průmysl. Práce zkoumá, do jaké míry jsou v Číně budovány kapacity obnovitelných zdrojů, jaké Čína deklaruje cíle a zejména poté jaká je realita. Čtenář získá přehled o hlavní regulaci na úrovni OSN a na úrovni Číny. Důležitá je taktéž charakteristika energetického průmyslu jako hlavního zdroje čínských emisí. SWOT analýza představuje vhodný nástroj pro zhodnocení současného energetického průmyslu ČLR s důrazem na výrobu elektřiny. Dává do souvislosti požadované omezení emisí CO2 mezinárodním společenstvím a vývoj energetického průmyslu. Silné a slabé stránky v tomto případě analyzují faktory, které Číně v současné době pomáhají či nikoliv plnit své deklarované emisní závazky. Příležitosti a hrozby naopak odhalují možné nedostatky současného energetického průmyslu a dostupné legislativ, které mohou ovlivnit naopak budoucí možné plnění emisních cílů.

Abstract:

Climate change is an important process that is affecting and will affect life on our planet. Global warming is mainly caused by high anthropogenic emissions, led by CO2 emissions. China, as the largest emitter, plays a key role in this case and its policies will be important in changing the approach to energy at a global level. Thus, the aim of this paper is to examine China's approach to limiting CO2 emissions, focusing on its energy industry. The thesis examines the extent to which renewable energy capacity is being built in China, what China's stated targets are, and then in particular what the reality is. The reader will get an overview of the main regulations at the UN and Chinese levels. Also important is the characterization of the energy industry as a major source of Chinese emissions. The SWOT analysis is a suitable tool to assess the current PRC energy industry with an emphasis on electricity generation. It puts into context the required CO2 emission limitation by the international community and the development of the energy industry. Strengths and weaknesses, in this case, analyze the factors that are currently helping or not helping China to meet its declared emission commitments. Opportunities and threats, on the other hand, reveal possible shortcomings of the current energy industry and available legislation that may in turn affect the possible future compliance with emission targets.
