Geography teachers' perception of the quality and usability of selected contour maps

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na hodnocení a využití obrysových map ve výuce geografie. Jedním z cílů této práce je hodnocení vybraných obrysových map na základě předem stanovených kritérií. První část práce se zabývala vymezením pojmu obrysových map a nejasnostmi ohledně používání pojmu obrysová mapa na českých školách. Poté bude představovat možnosti využití obrysových map při hodinách geografie a práce s nimi. Dále práce obsahuje nástin základních konceptů, které se využívají při hodnocení kartografických děl. Ke sběru dat byl využit polostrukturovaný rozhovor s devíti respondenty. Po zpracování dat bylo zjištěno, že obrysové mapy jsou nejčastěji využívány v regionální geografii, někteří respondenti však integrují obrysové mapy do výuky i jiný způsoby. Kvalitu obrysových map dostupných na internetu a v pracovních sešitech respondenti hodnotili ve většině případě negativně, hlavně kvůli výskytu častých faktografických chyb.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on the evaluation and use of contour maps in geography education. One of the aims of this thesis is to evaluate selected contour maps based on predetermined criteria. The first part of the thesis dealt with the definition of the term contour maps and the ambiguity regarding the use of the term contour map in Czech schools. Then it will present the possibilities of using contour maps in geography lessons and working with them. Furthermore, the thesis contains an outline of the basic concepts used in the evaluation of cartographic works. A semi-structured interview with nine respondents was used to collect data. After processing the data, it was found that contour maps are most commonly used in regional geography, but some respondents integrate contour maps into their teaching in other ways. The quality of contour maps available on the Internet and in workbooks was mostly negatively evaluated by respondents, mainly due to frequent factual errors.
