Opcie sa v súčasnosti vo veľkej miere používajú ako investičný nástroj na svetových finančných trhoch. Pôvodne boli vyvinuté za účelom zabezpečenia budúcej ceny, prípadne na ochranu aktív pred rôznymi rizikami.
