Ethics in Banking

Abstract:

Diplomová práce „Etika v bankovnictví“ obsahuje ve své úvodní části vymezení etiky jako takové. Dále se věnuji etice v bankovnictví a etickému kodexu vydanému Českou bankovní asociací. Zejména standardu č. 19 – Kodex chování mezi bankami a klienty. S etikou v bankovnictví je také spojena kancelář finančního arbitra, který je jedním z institutů zabývajícím se ochranou spotřebitele. V práci se věnuji vzniku institutu finančního arbitra, jeho poslání a sporům ve kterých může rozhodovat. Čtvrtá kapitola obsahuje základní charakteristiku bankovního sektoru České republiky, funkci centrální banky a obchodních bank. Poté se věnuji charakteristice spotřebitelských úvěrů a kreditních karet, které jsou dále rozebírány z pohledu klienta. Praktická část práce je zaměřena na informovanost spotřebitelů a jejich spokojenost s dodržováním etiky v bankovnictví. Z toho důvodu je součástí práce dotazník, který obsahuje 20 otázek týkajících se vybraných produktů. Následně jsou jednotlivé otázky vyhodnoceny, tak aby potvrdily či vyvrátily stanovené hypotézy. Na základě výsledků dotazníkové šetření jsou poté navrženy změny, které by měly přispět ke zlepšení současné situace.

Abstract:

The Introductory part of the Diploma thesis “Ethics in Banking” discusses ethics as a philosophical concept. I also focus on the issue of the ethical approach in the banking system along with the ethical codex issued by the Czech Banking Association. Precisely standard number 19 (The behavioral codex between the bank its clients). Banking ethics are closely connected with the office of financial arbiter, which is one of the institutions concerned with protection of customer. In the thesis I follow up the birth of the office of the financial arbiter, its goals and disputes in which it can engage. The forth chapter consists of a basic characteristic of the Czech bank sector, the function of the central bank and commercial banks. The work than follows with a characteristic of a consumer credit and credit cards, assessed from the perspective of the client. The practical part of the work is set to discover the level of awareness amongst clients and their satisfaction with compliance of ethics from the side of the bank. Due to this reason, part of the work consists of an analysis of questionnaires. The questionnaires were composed of 20 questions, focused on selected products. The analysis is then designed to either support or refute the set hypothesis. On the bases of the questionnaire, changes are proposed, that could lead to the improvement of the current situation.
