The Motivation of Fantastic in La Nuit sacrée by Tahar Ben Jelloun

Abstract:

The diploma thesis « Les motivations du fantastique dans „La Nuit sacrée“ de Tahar Ben Jelloun: Une fonction esthétique ou pratique? » deals with the author’s conception of fantastic. The work analyses the fantastic aspects of the modern Moroccan novel La Nuit sacrée. We also present the cultural, political and literary context of the author’s life in order to identify the motivation of the fantastic mode of narration in its complexity. The analysis is based on the theories of Tzvetan Todorov introduced in his work Introduction à la littérature fantastique.

Abstract:

Tématem této bakalářské práce je fantastično v románu La Nuit sacrée marockého frankofonního spisovatele, básníka a novináře Tahara Ben Jellouna. Fantastický diskurs je využíván v rozličných literaturách v odlišných historických obdobích. Naším cílem je identifikovat v analyzovaném románu fantastické prvky na rovině obsahové stejně tak jako na rovině stylistické, objasnit motivace a funkce daného žánru v díle Tahara Ben Jellouna a zasadit je do sociálně-kulturního kontextu post-koloniální maghrebské společnosti. Analýza se opírá o paradigma vytvořené Tzvetanem Todorovem v jeho práci o teorii fantastické literatury Introduction à la littérature fantastique.
