Evaluation of background influence on metric characteristics of acquired human face 2D recording

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se věnuje hodnocení vlivu pozadí na metrické charakteristiky lidského obličeje z pořízeného 2D záznamu. Objasnění nutnosti standardizace podmínek prostředí je důležité pro rozvoj bezkontaktní metody sběru dat o živém člověku. Cílem této práce bylo vyhodnotit, jestli a případně jak se mění metrické vlastnosti obličeje při použití různých barev pozadí. K vytvoření analyzovaného datového souboru byly zhotovené fotografické snímky obličeje 57 dospělých jedinců na černém, bílem a zeleném pozadí. Všechny fotografie byly zhotovené v standardizovaných podmínkách zadní kamerou mobilního telefonu. Zkoumané antropometrické rozměry byly měřeny mezi vyznačenými antropometrickými body obličeje na fotografiích. Statistické zpracování dat pomocí lineárních regresních modelů ukázalo, že pozadí nemá signifikantní vliv na metrické charakteristiky lidského obličeje. Výsledky této práce naznačují, že pro sběr fotografického materiálu není nutné standardizovat barvu pozadí za subjektem.

Abstract:

This bachelor’s thesis focuses on evaluating the influence of background on the metric characteristics of the human face captured in 2D recordings. Clarifying the necessity of standardizing environmental conditions is important for the development of contactless methods for collecting data on living humans. The aim of this thesis was to evaluate whether and how the metric properties of the face change when using different background colors. To create the analyzed dataset, photographic images of the faces of 57 adults were taken against black, white, and green background. All photographs were captured under standardized conditions using the rear camera of a mobile phone. The investigated anthropometric dimensions were measured between the digitized anthropometric landmarks on the face in the photographs. Statistical analysis of the data using linear regression models showed that the background does not have a significant impact on the metric characteristics of the human face. The results of this thesis suggest that it is not necessary to standardize the background color behind the subject for collecting photographic material.
