Geoinformation Processing in Difficult Conditions

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá vizuální percepcí (vnímáním) map určených pro krizový management u dvou vybraných skupin uživatelů. Nejdříve jsou analyzovány odpovídající literární zdroje poskytující informace o krizového řízení, povodních a také percepci map. V práci jsou dále popsány standardy FEMA a FGDC. Mapové podklady zanesené v krizových plánech jsou jako „zvláštní skutečnosti“ utajené. Navíc pro mapové podklady a jejich tvorbu (včetně soustavy mapových znaků) nejsou vytvořeny potřebné standardy. Autorka práce proto navrhuje vlastní mapu ve více grafických variantách určenou pro krizové řízení při povodňové situaci. Přitom využívá symbolů americké FGDC a vlastního návrhu liniových a plošných mapových znaků. Vizuální percepce uživatelů map byla konkrétně otestována v sedmi variantách, a to ve skupinách negeografů a geografů pod psychologickým dohledem. Výsledky testování jsou okomentovány v závěru práce a výsledky nedokazují významné rozdíly mezi těmito skupinami.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the visual perception of the maps intended for the emergency management with two groups of chosen users. First of all there is an analysis of appropriate literary sources which provide information on the emergency management, floods and the map perception, too. The thesis also gives an account of the FEMA and FGDC norms. The base maps recorded in the emergency plans are secret as the „unusual state of matter“. Moreover, there are not any necessary norms coined for the base maps and their creation (including the system of the map symbols). On that account the author of the thesis designed her own map in several graphic options, which is intended for the flood emergency management. She makes a use of the symbols of the american FGDC as well as the line and area map symbols designed by herself. Visual perception of the map-users was tested using seven graphic options in two groups – the geographers and non-geographers – under the supervision of a psychologist. The test results are commented on in the conclusion of the thesis and they do not prove any significant differences between the two groups.
