Dvouřeťezcové zlomy (DSBs) jsou jedním z nejnebezpečnějších typů poškození DNA - v případě, že nejsou rychle opraveny, mohou vést k nestabilitě genomu, buněčné smrti nebo maligní transformaci. Za jejich bezchybnou opravu v buňce zodpovídá homologní rekombinace (HR) – v níž hraje důležitou úlohu centrální rekombináza RAD51. DNA double strand breaks (DSBs) are among the most toxic genome lesions. If unrepaired, DSBs can lead to extensive genome instability, cell death or cancerogenesis. Homologous recombination (HR) accounts for an “error-free” repair of DSBs with RAD51 recombinase playing central role in this pathway.
