The Czech National Bank's exchange rate commitment

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá kurzovým závazkem České národní banky, důvody jeho zavedení, nejčastější kritikou, která v souvislosti s ním zaznívala, a jeho skutečnými dopady na ekonomiku. První kapitola je věnována nekonvenčním nástrojům vybraných centrálních bank ve vyspělých ekonomikách. Druhá kapitola shrnuje fakta o tom, co předcházelo použití kurzového závazku. Třetí kapitola přibližuje konkrétní podobu závazku a důvody, které vedly k jeho přijetí. Stěžejní část práce analyzuje kritiku kurzového závazku ze strany veřejnosti, analytiků a dalších pozorovatelů, přičemž zohledňuje protiargumentace ze strany představitelů České národní banky. V závěru je posouzen a shrnut přínos kurzového závazku pro českou ekonomiku v kontextu stručného zhodnocení použití nekonvenčních nástrojů vybraných centrálních bank.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the Czech National Bank's exchange rate commitment, the reasons for its introduction, the most frequent criticism that has been related to it and its actual impact on the economy. The first chapter is devoted to unconventional instruments of selected central banks in advanced economies. The second chapter summarizes the facts about what preceded the use of the exchange rate commitment. The third chapter describes the concrete form of the commitment and the reasons which led to its acceptance. The next part of the thesis analyzes the criticism of the exchange rate commitment by the public, analysts and other observers, taking into account the counter-arguments from the representatives of the Czech National Bank. Finally, the contribution of the exchange rate commitment for the Czech economy is assessed and summarized in the context of a brief assessment of the use of unconventional instruments of selected central banks.
