Posttraumatic Changes in the Context of Interpersonal Relationships, Hope and Life Satisfaction

Abstract:

V této magisterské diplomové práci se zabýváme analýzou části dat z mezinárodní studie Naděje 2014. Předkládáme téma traumatu a posttraumatických změn osobnosti v kontextu vybraných psychosociálních proměnných (mezilidské vztahy, naděje a životní spokojenost) a také některých demografických faktorů (pohlaví, věk, vzdělání, rodinný stav, dobrovolnictví, zdravotní stav) i charakteristik traumatické situace (povaha traumatické události a doba uplynulá od traumatu). V rámci integrovaného přístupu zkoumáme jak posttraumatické změny pozitivní, tak i negativní. Teoretická část práce obsahuje konceptualizaci zkoumaných konstruktů, konkrétně traumatu a posttraumatických změn, mezilidských vztahů, naděje a také životní spokojenosti, a to včetně relevantních souvislostí. Ve výzkumné části práce se prostřednictvím kvantitativní analýzy zaměřujeme na zodpovězení výzkumných otázek a ověřování stanovených hypotéz. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 1409 respondentů z řad široké české veřejnosti. Použité výzkumné nástroje, u kterých byla ověřována reliabilita ve smyslu vnitřní konzistence a u nichž byla též identifikována struktura dat, jsou následující: Changes in Outlook Questionnaire – short form (Joseph et al., 2006), Positive relations with others (Ryff, 1989), The Adult Dispositional Hope Scale (Snyder et al., 1991) and General Life Satisfaction Scale (Dalbert et al., 1984). Naše výsledky naznačují, že udržování důvěrných a recipročně obohacujících vztahů s druhými lidmi a také vyšší míra naděje a obecné životní spokojenosti mají význam spíše pro nepřítomnost negativních posttraumatických změn nežli pro přítomnost změn pozitivních. Pozitivní mezilidské vztahy, naděje, a zejména životní spokojenost mohou představovat indikátory negativního dopadu traumatických událostí na život jedince a současně také působit jako protektivní faktory redukující negativní důsledky traumatu. Naopak jejich vliv na pozitivní posttraumatické změny je značně omezený. V práci se dále podrobněji zmiňujeme o odlišnostech lidí v míře posttraumatických změn dle vybraných demografických proměnných a charakteristik traumatické situace.

Abstract:

In this master diploma thesis we analyse the data from international study Hope 2014. The topic of trauma and posttraumatic changes of personality is investigated in the context of numerous psychosomatic variables (interpersonal relationships, hope and life satisfaction), demographic factors (sex, age, education, marital status, volunteering, health status), and characteristics of a traumatic situation (kind of the incident, time passed from the trauma). We investigate positive and negative posttraumatic changes within an integrated model. The theoretical part consists of conceptualization ofinvestigated constructs (trauma, posttraumatic changes, interpersonal relationships, hope and life satisfaction) in the relevant context. The quantitative analysis of research part aims to answer research questions and verify the hypotheses. The research sample consists of 1409 respondents from general public. We verified reliability as internal consistency and identified structure of the data of these tools used: Changes in Outlook Questionnaire – short form (Joseph et al., 2006), Positive relations with others (Ryff, 1989), The Adult Dispositional Hope Scale (Snyder et al., 1991) and General Life Satisfaction Scale (Dalbert et al., 1984). Our results suggest that maintaining confidential and reciprocally rewarding relationships with others and higher rates of hope and general life satisfaction are significant because of the absence of negative posttraumatic changes rather than the presence of positive changes. Positive interpersonal relationships, hope and especially life satisfaction can indicate a negative impact of traumatic incidents on the life of a person and at the same time can be protective factors for reducing negative consequences of trauma. On the contrary their impact on positive posttraumatic changes is very limited. In addition, we mention differences in the rate of posttraumatic changes according to demographic variables and characteristics of traumatic situation.
