Quality of life in patients with epilepsy

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá dopadem epilepsie na kvalitu života pacientů. V teoretické části práce je popsána historie epilepsie, charakter nemoci, její diagnostika i terapie, dále problematika epilepsie v životě ženy a v životě seniorů. Závěr kapitoly se věnuje roli sestry při edukaci pacientů s epilepsií. Další kapitola shrnuje problematiku kvality života obecně i v životě epileptiků. Popsány jsou nástroje měření kvality života související se zdravím při epilepsii, zejména pak dotazníky QOLIE-31 a QOLIE-31-P. Pacienti s epilepsií jsou vystaveni zdravotní, sociální a psychické zátěži, která se odráží na jejich celkové kvalitě života. Cílem praktické části práce je zjistit a zhodnotit úroveň kvality života u pacientů s epilepsií pomocí standardizovaného dotazníku QOLIE-31-P se zaměřením na odlišnost mezi pohlavími a věkovými kategoriemi a popsat, jak dopad tohoto onemocnění vnímají sami pacienti.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with epilepsy and its impact on the quality of patients' life. Theoretical part of the thesis describes the history of epilepsy, the character of the disease, its diagnostics and treatment and also the epilepsy difficulties in women's and seniors' life. The last part of the chapter focuses on nurse's role in eduticating patients with epilepsy. The next chapter summarizes the issue of the life quality of patients with epilepsy in general. It describes the ways how to measure the quality of life related to the health of patients with epilepsy, especially questionnaires QOLIE-31 and QOLIE-31-P. Epilepsy patients face health, social and mental difficulties which effect their quality of life in all aspects. The practical part aims at finding out and evaluating the level of the life quality of epileptic patients using the standardized questionnaire QOLIE-31-P focusing on differences in gender and age categories and describing how the patients themselves perceive this diagnosis
