Editing in a horror film

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je poskytnout komplexní přehled o využití střihu v hororových filmech. K dosažení tohoto cíle autorka analyzuje způsoby a techniky střihové skladby v hororovém filmu a jejich využití v konkrétních audiovizuálních dílech. Autorka také rozebírá vlastní střih krátkého studentského hororového filmu. V teoretické části této práce jsou definice, historie a vývoj hororového žánru, a také popis subžánrů hororových filmů. Pak v teoretické části jsou popsány úlohy, druhy a techniky střihové skladby při tvorbě audiovizuálního díla. Praktická část se věnuje analýze střihu ve známých hororových filmech a zkoumá, kdy a proč je použit určitý způsob střihu a jak divák vnímá scénu v závislosti na konkrétním způsobu střihu. Pak je uveden proces tvorby vlastního střihu krátkého hororového filmu. Na závěr autorka analyzuje vhodnost zvolených střihových technik pro režisérovu vizi a posílení jeho záměru prostřednictvím hloubkového rozhovoru s režisérem filmu.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to provide a comprehensive overview of the use of editing in horror films. In order to achieve this goal, the author analyses the methods and techniques of editing in horror films and their use in particular audiovisual works. The author also discusses her own editing of a short student horror film. The theoretical part of this thesis includes definitions, history and evolution of the horror genre, as well as a description of the sub-genres of horror films. Then the theoretical part describes the roles, types and techniques of editing in the creation of an audiovisual work. The practical part analyses editing in popular horror films and examines when and why a particular editing technique is used and how the viewer experiences a scene depending on the particular editing technique. Then it presents the process of creating the editing of a short horror film. In conclusion, the author analyses the relevance of the chosen editing techniques to the director's vision and the strengthening of his idea through an in-depth interview with the director of the film.
