José J. Veiga: Relativity as a principle of his fictional worlds

Abstract:

The objective of this work is a literary analysis of two writings of a brasilian author of the second half of the 20th century, José J. Veiga, in terms of semantics of possible worlds. The first, theoretic part concerns a theory of possible and fictional worlds by Lubomír Doležel, that allowed us a better definition of the Veiga's notion of the fantastic, and the caracteristics of postmodernism that are reflected in some José J. Veiga's writings. The second part of the work is dedicated to an analysis of a short-story "Diálogo da relativa grandeza" (A relative grandness dialog) and a briefer romance O relógio Belisário (Belisário's clock). The accent is put, in accord with the theory of fictional worlds, on the actions of the characters and the role of the narrator. In general, focuses the expressions of relativity as a constitutive element of his fictional worlds, flowing from the premise of postmodernism, namely in the thematic, ideologic and also textural level.

Abstract:

Práce si klade za cíl literární rozbor dvou děl brazilského autora 2. poloviny 20. století Josého J. Veigy na základě sémantiky možných světů. První, teoretičtější část pojednává jednak o teorii možných a fikčních světů, jak ji prezentuje Lubomír Doležel a která nám umožnila definovat přesněji Veigovo pojetí fantastična, jednak o charakteristikách postmodernismu, které se obrážejí v některých dílech Josého J. Veigy. Druhá část práce se věnuje rozboru konkrétních děl - povídky „Diálogo da relativa grandeza“ (Dialog o relativní velikosti) a kratšího románu O relógio Belisário (Belisáriovy hodiny). Důraz je přitom kladen na akce postav a úlohu vypravěče a celkově směřuje k poukázání na projevy relativity jako konstitučního prvku těchto fikčních světů, vycházejícího z premis postmodernismu, a to v rovině tematické, ideologické i strukturní.
