Genetic structure of chamois populations in Central Europe

Abstract:

Disertační práce se věnuje vlivu přirozené fragmentace areálu, demografické historie a managementu na genetickou variabilitu a populační genetickou strukturu kamzíka horského ve východní části jeho areálu. Konkrétně byly studovány populace kamzíka na Slovensku (včetně jediných dvou populací endemického kamzíka horského tatranského) a ve Slovinsku, kde se jedná o populace na okraji areálu kamzíka horského alpského. Pomocí genetických markerů byl také analyzován původ zakladatelů populací kamzíka horského alpského v České republice a na Novém Zélandu.

Abstract:

The thesis focused on impact of naturally fragmented distribution pattern, demographic history and human management on genetic variation and population genetic structure on Northern chamois in eastern part of its distribution range. Particularly, the populations in Slovakia (including the only two populations of endemic Tatra chamois subspecies) and Slovenia (populations at the edge of distribution range of Alpine chamois subspecies) were studied. The origin of Alpine chamois populations in the Czech Republic and New Zealand was also genetically analysed.
