The life of a professional dancer and ballet art on the background of the times in the State theater ballet ensemble in Brno in the 60s of 20th century

Abstract:

Předkládaná bakalářská diplomová práce si klade za cíl pomocí metody orální historie přiblížit existenci baletního souboru Státního divadla v Brně v 60. letech 20. století na pozadí politicko – společenského systému dané doby. Práci samotné předchází nástin změn a specifik v umělecké tvorbě československého divadelnictví po roce 1945, a zejména pak po únoru 1948 a výklad historie brněnského baletu. Následující kapitoly přibližují různé sféry pracovní náplně tanečníka Státního divadla v Brně. Jednotlivé kapitoly se věnují rozboru repertoáru z ideologického pohledu, uměleckým zájezdům do zahraničí a možnostem profesního vzestupu. Další kapitola sleduje čistě subjektivní vnímání událostí po intervenci vojsk Varšavské smlouvy v srpnu 1968 tehdejšími tanečníky. A konečně poslední kapitola vybočuje z časově vymezeného období a zaměřuje se na profesní dráhu narátorů po ukončení aktivní taneční kariéry. Práce tak řeší, zda vůbec či v jaké míře a konkrétní podobě hrály v baletním souboru Státního divadla v Brně roli mocenské a politické zájmy dané doby. Výše uvedená problematika je zkoumaná na základě výpovědí pěti narátorů, které byly konfrontovány s literaturou a menší částí přístupných pramenů.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is, using the method of oral history, to introduce the existence of the ballet company of the State Theater in Brno in the 1960s on the background of the political and social system of the time. The work itself is preceded by an outline of changes and pecularities in the artistic work of Czechoslovak theater after 1945, and especially after February 1948 and the interpretation of the history of the ballet in Brno. The following chapters describe various responsibilities of a dancer in Brno State Theater. The individual chapters deal with the analysis of the repertoire from the ideological point of view, artistic tours abroad and possibilities of professional growth. The next chapter monitors purely subjective perception of the events after the intervention of the Warsaw Pact armies in August 1968 as seen by the dancers. And the final chapter leaves that time period behind and focuses on careers of the narrators after the end of their active dance careers. The work thus solves whether or not, and in what extend, and in what particular form, the power and political interests of the time played their role in the ballet company of the State Theater in Brno. The aforementioned issues are examined on the basis of the five narrators‘ testimonies which have been compared to the literature and a minor part of the available sources.
