French labor market and unemployment

Abstract:

Tato práce se zaměřuje na fungování a specifika francouzského trhu práce. Francie dlouhodobě trpí vysokou nezaměstnaností a tamní pracovní trh vykazuje vysoký stupeň institucionálních omezení. Tato práce vysvětluje strukturu tamního pracovního trhu a identifikuje původ, dopady a řešení jeho dvou hlavních problémů: vysoké minimální mzdy a duality trhu práce. Jako teoretický podklad využívám jak rovnovážné modely v podmínkách klasického trhu práce, tak moderní nerovnovážný model insider – outsider. Poslední kapitola je pak věnována opatření současné vlády prezidenta Emmanuela Macrona, které se těchto problémů týkají. Právě tato závěrečná případová studie má sloužit jako odpověď na hlavní otázku práce: jsou reformy stávající vlády prezidenta Macrona správně nastaveny a mají potenciál vyřešit hlavní problémy francouzského pracovního trhu?

Abstract:

This work focuses on the functioning and specifics of the French labor market. France has long suffered from high unemployment and its labor market shows a high degree of institutional constraints. This thesis explains the structure of the local labor market and identifies the origins, impacts and solutions of its two main problems: high minimum wages and duality of the labor market. As a theoretical basis I use both equilibrium models in the conditions of the classical labor market and modern non-equilibrium model insider – outsider. The last chapter is devoted to measures of the current government of President Emmanuel Macron, which concern these problems. This final case study is intended to answer the main question of the thesis: are the reforms of the current government of President Macron well set up and do they have the potential to solve the main problems of the French labor market?
