Knowledge and attitudes of future teachers to epilepsy

Abstract:

Diplomová práce byla klasicky rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. Zpracování celé teoretické části bylo důležité zejména pro pochopení a orientování se v dané problematice a k celkovému propojení tématu. Pojmy jsem dostatečně vysvětlila, tudíž mohu říci, že jsem tento úkol splnila. V praktické části jsem si stanovila tři hypotézy. První hypotézou bylo, že nekvalifikovaní učitelé 1. stupně z praxe mají v průměru větší znalosti o epilepsii než studenti učitelství 1. stupně, kteří dosud zkušenosti z praxe nemají. Tato hypotéza se potvrdila. Ostatní hypotézy týkající se jednak rozdílů v postojích k dětem s epilepsií v obou analyzovaných skupinách a jednak vlivu délky pedagogické praxe na znalosti a postoje, se však již potvrdit nepodařilo. Na základě výsledků vzniká otázka, jak zlepšovat postoje k epilepsii už v rámci vysokoškolské přípravy budoucích učitelů. Dle mého názoru je zapotřebí věnovat větší část praxi, která může studentům pomoci zlepšit se nejen v oblasti znalostí a postojů ve vztahu k epilepsii, ale také v míře zdravé sebedůvěry, která je pro povolání pedagoga potřebná.

Abstract:

Thesis was as usual divided to theoretical and practical part. Processing the theoretical part was important for overall understanding and orientation in the problematic, and for overall understanding of the topic. Concepts were explained enough, therefore I can state the task was fulfilled. In the practical part based on careful discussion of the theoretical findings and carried out using an questionnaire survey, four hypotheses were formulated. We believed that the elementary teachers with a practical experience with teaching should have greater knowledge about epilepsy than students of the corresponding field at Faculty of Education without practice. This hypothesis was clearly confirmed. Surprisingly, further hypotheses concerning more positive attitudes of the former group towards people with epilepsy as well as a positive effect of the length of teaching experience on knowledge and attitudes regarding epilepsy were not confirmed in the statistical analysis. Based on the results of our research, the important question how to improve knowledge of epilepsy and attitudes towards people with this disease among future teachers during their studies at the university arises. In my opinion, it is necessary in this context to pay more attention to practice which could help students to improve themselves not only in the field of epilepsy, but also more general in self-confidence which is for the future teachers highly needed.
