Lay and professional representations of urban open spaces.

Abstract:

Práce je zaměřena na popis faktorů ovlivňujících vnímání a hodnocení architektonického díla. Věnuje se kategoriím, které používají skupiny architektů a laiků k popisu architektonických děl pomocí teorie osobních konstruktů George Kellyho. Za tímto účelem byla použita technika repertoárových mřížek. Studie se soustředí na rozdíly mezi skupinami studentů architektury a psychologie. Empirická část se zaměřuje na exploraci dimenzí, které se podílejí na vytváření mentální reprezentace městských prostranství (přesněji náměstí), a rozpoznání jejich důležitosti u těchto skupin. Obě skupiny užívají do jisté míry odlišné dimenze. Při hodnocení náměstí na těchto dimenzích existují malé rozdíly, jejichž velikost účinku je však malé až střední míry důležitosti. Výběr nejdůležitějších dimenzí ukazuje určitou míru shody mezi skupinami. Práce naznačuje, že s velikostí a rozlehlostí architektonického díla se rozdíly mezi architekty a laiky stírají.

Abstract:

Thesis describes the factors, which influence perception and evaluation of architectural design. It focuses on the categories used by a group of architects and laymen to describe architectural work using George Kelly´s theory of personal constructs. Repertory grid technique was used. Study focuses on the differences between groups. The empirical part explores dimensions, which are involved in creating a mental representation of urban open spaces (squares), and recognizes their importance for groups of students of architecture and psychology. Both groups use somewhat different dimensions. When evaluating the square on these dimensions there are small differences, however the effect size is small to moderate degree of importance. Selecting the most important dimensions shows a degree of consensus between groups. Study suggests that the size and extent of the architectural work make blur the overall ranking differences among architects and laymen.
