Motivation of foreign students to study at TBU and their adaptation

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá motivací, která vede zahraniční studenty ke studiu v jiné zemi a konkrétně na Univerzitě Tomáše Bati ve Zlíně. Současně se práce zaměřuje na adaptaci těchto studentů na nové prostředí. První část práce vysvětluje pojmy týkající se motivace ke studiu, adaptace na nové prostředí a vysokoškolského vzdělávání. Blíže popisuje Univerzitu Tomáše Bati ve Zlíně a zahraniční studenty, kteří zde studují v dlouhodobých studijních programech. Empirická část zahrnuje analýzu rozhovorů s dlouhodobými zahraničními studenty doktorského studijního programu a následně vyhodnocení kvalitativního výzkumu daného tématu. Výsledkem práce je ucelený pohled na motivaci, která vede studenty cizince ke studiu v zahraničí. Blíže definuje stěžejní důvody, které přiměly studenty k volbě studia na Univerzitě Tomáše Bati ve Zlíně, a předkládá doporučení pro zvýšení počtu zahraničních studentů na této univerzitě. Současně práce popisuje průběh adaptace zahraničních studentů na nové prostředí.

Abstract:

The Bachelor thesis deals with motivation that leads foreign students to study in another country and specifically at Tomas Bata University in Zlín. At the same time work focuses on the adaptation of these students to the new environment. The first part of the thesis explains the concepts related to motivation to study, adaptation to the new environment and tertiary education. Closer describes Tomas Bata University in Zlín and foreign students, who study here in the long-term study programs. The empirical part includes an analysis of interviews with the long-term foreign students of the Doctoral study program and subsequently evaluation of qualitative research of given topic. The result of this work is a comprehensive view on the motivation that leads foreign students to study abroad. Closer defines the main reasons that prompted students to choose to study at Tomas Bata University in Zlín and presents recommendations for increasing the number of students at this university. At the same time the thesis describes the process of adaptation of foreign students to the new environment.
