Dualism of Pictures, Voices and Worlds in the film All for the Good of the World and Nošovice

Abstract:

Předmětem bakalářské práce je primárně neoformalistická analýza dokumentárního filmu Víta Klusáka Vše pro dobro světa a Nošovic, která je současně doplněna a rozšířena o prozkoumání dokumentaristických formálních a stylistických postupů, jež byly tvůrci použity. Neoformalistická analýza vychází z konceptu vypracovaného Davidem Bordwellem a Kristin Thompsonovou. Z teoretických směrů zkoumání dokumentárního filmu byl pak zvolen přístup Billa Nicholse, který je kompatibilní s metodologií Bordwella a Thompsonové založené na kognitivismu. Práce propojuje tři roviny: 1. Jak funguje zkoumaný snímek jako umělecké dílo – jako film (tedy analýza jeho formy, stylu a vyprávění), 2. Jak funguje zkoumaný snímek jako dokumentární film (tedy analýza jeho „hlasu“, jeho modů) a 3. Jak je zkoumaný snímek součástí sociologického fenoménu kinematografie (tedy zejména jak byl produkován, distribuován a recipován, nicméně rovněž též jak „jinak“ byl v interakci se skutečným světem). Dominanta filmu je definována jako dualismus obrazů, hlasů a světů se záměrně posílenou poetizací.

Abstract:

The subject of this bachelor thesis is primarily the neoformalist analysis of the documentary film All for the Good of the World and Nošovice by Vít Klusák which at the same time is supplemented and expanded by an exploration of the formalistic and stylistic documentary processes used by the film´s creators. Neoformalist analysis is based on the concept developed by David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson. The approach of Bill Nichols was then selected from all theoretical trends in documentary film analysis, as it is compatible with the methodology of Bordwell and Thompson as based on cognitivism. This thesis integrates three levels: 1. How the analysed film functions as a work of art/as movie (that is, an analysis of its form, style, and narrative), 2. How the analysed film functions as a documentary (that is, an analysis of its “voice”, its modes) and 3. How the analysed film is a part of the sociological phenomenon of cinematography (that is, namely how it was produced, distributed and received, however also how it was “otherwise” in interaction with the actual world). The dominant of the film is defined as dualism of pictures, voices and worlds with intentionally enhanced poetisation.
