The Creation of Public Space via ANT Optics (A case study of the renovated place in Dlouhá Street, Brno Bohunice)

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá tvorbou veřejného prostoru na nově zrekonstruovaném území ulice Dlouhé v Brně-Bohunicích. Rekonstrukce, její účel vytvořit z průchozí ulice centrum městské části a po rekonstrukci následná změna v používání místa byly počátečním bodem zájmu o tuto lokalitu. Předkládaná případová studie vychází z rozlišení místa a prostoru od Michela de Certeaua, jehož koncept je užíván v kontextu města a nabízí rozlišení mezi veřejným prostranstvím jakožto fyzickým místem a veřejným prostorem jakožto místem používaným. Vzhledem k tomu, že z veřejného prostranství se používáním stává veřejný prostor, je tázání se po tvorbě veřejného prostoru propojeno s tázáním se po tvorbě veřejného prostranství. Ve snaze zachytit „všechny“ heterogenní prvky, které se na tvorbě podílejí, a poukázat na jejich provázanost a vztahovou povahu reality je celý text napsán v duchu teorie sítí aktérů. Cílem práce není pouze přispět k porozumění procesu tvorby prostranství a prostoru na dané ulici, ale nabídnout jednu z možných perspektiv, skrze niž lze tvorbě veřejného prostoru a prostranství porozumět.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the creation of public space in the newly renovated area of Dlouhá Street in Brno Bohunice. The reconstruction, its purpose of creating a center of the city district from a pass-through street and the subsequent change in the use of the place after the reconstruction were the starting point of the interest in this location. The presented case study is based on distinguishing place and space by Michel de Certeau, whose concept is used in the context of the city and offers a distinction between public place as a physical place and public space as a practiced place. Given that a public place is becoming a public space by using it, asking about the creation of a public space is connected with asking about the creation of a public place. In an attempt to capture "all" of the heterogeneous elements that are involved in creating and point out their interdependence and relational nature of reality, the whole text is written in the spirit of the actor network theory. The aim of the thesis is not only to contribute to understanding the process of creating the place and space in the street, but to offer one of the possible perspectives through which the creation of public space and place can be understood.
