Demographic aging in the Czech Republic and its economic and social consequences

Abstract:

Demografické stárnutí je globální trend, který výrazně zasáhl do demografického vývoje České republiky a to zvláště po roce 1989, kdy se výrazně změnilo reprodukční chování místních obyvatel, a projevil se výrazný vliv druhého demografického přechodu se všemi důsledky. Hlavní tezí je tedy zhodnotit demografické stárnutí jako proces a vyhodnotit jeho příčiny (pokles úhrnné plodnosti, vzdělání matek na jejich plodnost, zvyšování naděje dožití, vliv migrace) a důsledky (podíl ekonomicky aktivních a ekonomicky neaktivních obyvatel, úbytek plátců pojištění, zatížení rozpočtu v důsledku vyšších výdajů na důchody a zdravotnictví).

Abstract:

Demographic aging is a global trend that has significantly influenced the demographic development of the Czech Republic, and especially after the year 1989, which significantly changed the reproductive behavior of the local population, and showed the strong influence of the second demographic transition with all its consequences. The main thesis is to assess the demographic aging as a process and evaluate its causes (decrease overall fertility, increasing life expectancy, the impact of migration) and consequences (the proportion of economic active and economic inactive population, loss of insurance payers, a charge due higher spending on pensions and health care).
