The Significance of Leisure Time Activities for Seniors

Abstract:

Volný čas se stal fenoménem moderní doby. Na volnočasové aktivity a smysluplné využití volného času je kladen, od poloviny 20. století až po současnost, větší význam, než kdykoli předtím. Volnočasová pedagogika byla především zaměřena na děti a mládež. 21. Století tuto oblast rozšířilo i na dospělé a zejména seniory, a také seniory v institucionální péči. Přístup k seniorům v pobytových institucích se v posledním čtvrtstoletí značně změnil, a to směrem k lepšímu. Předkládaná diplomová práce se tímto fenoménem zabývá z pohledu seniorů. Cílem práce je posoudit význam volnočasových aktivit v životě seniorů v zařízení pro seniory. Teore-tická část objasňuje pojmy související s volným časem, stářím a s aktivním stárnutím. Dále přináší pohled na volný čas během století a na volnočasové aktivity v zařízení pro seniory. Praktická část se snaží posoudit smysl volnočasových aktivit pro uživatele služeb v domově pro seniory v Brně Židenicích.

Abstract:

Leisure time has become a phenomenon of the modern era. From the midst of the 20th cen-tury, up until now, much greater emphasis than ever before has been put on leisure activities and meaningful utilization of leisure. Pedagogy of leisure focused predominantly on children and youth. The 21st century extended the scope to include adults, particularly sen-iors, and elderly in institutional care. Attitude towards seniors in residential care has signif-icantly changed for the better in the last quarter century. The presented thesis investigates the phenomenon from senior citizens´ point of view. It aims at evaluating the significance of leisure activities in life of seniors and in senior care institution. The theoretical part clarifies terms related to leisure, age and active ageing. It includes the concept of leisure as it developed through the century. It also reviews leisure activities as applied in senior care institutions. The empirical part of thesis evaluates signif-icance of leisure activities as perceived by the recipients of care in the Home for seniors, Brno Židenice.
