Great Moravian Axes
Abstract:
Práce shrnuje dosavadní české i zahraniční bádání o raně středověkých sekerách, zkoumá velkomoravské sekery po stránce jejich praktické funkce, ale také společenského významu a symbolického smyslu. Je navržen nový dvojitý systém typologického třídění. Druhou část práce tvoří katalog nálezů seker ze tří významných archeologických lokalit: Mikulčic, Pohanska a Starého Města.
Abstract:
This thesis sums up existing Czech and foreign research on early medieval axes. It examines Great Moravian axes, concerning both their practical function, as well as social status sign and symbolic meaning. A new, doubled typological system is presented. The second part is a catalogue of axes found on three important archeological sites: Mikulčice, Pohansko and Staré Město.
