The analysis of university students' experience within an experiment concerning voluntary isolation

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce pojednává o technice omezené zevní stimulace neboli REST. Teoretická část práce seznamuje čtenáře se základní terminologií, vymezením stěžejních pojmů, historickým vývojem techniky, metodami provedení a jejími účinky na člověka. Dále popisuje speciální variantu REST, která se praktikuje v České republice pod názvem Terapie tmou. Cílem výzkumné části je zjistit, prostřednictvím kvalitativní analýzy, jakou zkušenost prožili studenti v souvislosti s dvoudenním pobytem v prostředí omezené zevní stimulace. Náš výzkumný soubor se skládá ze 4 žen ve věkovém rozmezí 22 až 23 let. Tvorbu dat jsme zrealizovali pomocí polostrukturovaných rozhovorů a pro jejich následnou analýzu jsme použili metodu interpretativní fenomenologické analýzy (IPA). V závěru práce prezentujeme výsledky naší studie a věnujeme se zde také diskuzi a limitům výzkumu.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the technique of the restricted environmental stimulation or REST. The theoretical part of the work introduces readers to the the basic terminology, the definition of the key words, the historical development of the technique, the methods of implementation and its effects on humans. It also describes special REST version, which is used in the Czech Republic under the name Dark Therapy. The aim of the research is to find out, through qualitative analysis, what the students experienced during a two-day stay in the environment of the restricted environmental stimulation. Our research group consists of four women aged 22 to 23. The data were gathered through semi-structured interviews and we used the method of interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) for their subsequent analysis. The results of our study as well as discussion and research limits are presented at the end of the thesis.
