The Role of Slavery in Modern Society

Abstract:

Hlavním tématem diplomové práce je otroctví v moderní společnosti. Práce se v první části zaměřuje na vymezení pojmu otroctví a jeho popis v antické společnosti. Následně se věnuje podobě otroctví v 15.-17. století během kolonizace a vznikem atlantického otroctví, které sehrálo důležitou roli ve formování západní společnosti a její přeměně z feudální společnosti na společnost stojící na principech tržní ekonomiky. Druhá část práce se věnuje charakteristice moderní společnosti a především těm jejím aspektům, které se podílejí na pokračování fenoménu otroctví. Poté se soustředí na formy otroctví, s kterými je možné se v moderní společnosti setkat, zejména pak v rámci pracovních vztahů a obchodu s lidmi. Cílem práce je analyzovat, jaký význam v dnešní moderní společnosti tato instituce má.

Abstract:

The main topic of the diploma thesis is slavery in modern society. In the first section the thesis is focused on definition of the term slavery and its description in antic society. Furthermore it is occupied with the form of slavery in 15th -17th century during colonization and with the origin of atlantic slavery which played an important part in the formation of western society and her transformation from feudal society to society build on principals of market economy. The second part of the thesis is preoccupied with characteristics of modern society and mostly the aspects which take part on the continuity of slavery phenomen. Later it focuses on the forms of slavery which we can encounter in modern society, especially in the framework of business relations and human trafficking. The goal of the work is to analyze what meaning in modern society does this institution have.
