Advanced materials and their toxicological effect in vitro

Abstract:

Koordinační sloučeniny se skládají z centrálního iontu, který je nejčastěji zastoupen kovem a z ligandu. Jedním z nejdůležitějších kovových prvků pro život obecně je zinek. Ten má unikátní vlastnosti jako je vývoj integrity respiračního epitelu, nervové-ho a imunitního systému, vývoj kostí, boj s infekcemi. Je životně důležitý pro chuť a čich, nepostradatelný pro obnovu kožních buněk, pomáhá při syntéze proteinu nebo funguje jako antioxidant. Jeho vlastnost koordinační flexibility a možné aktivace Lewisovy kyseliny z něj dělá kandidáta pro vytváření stabilních sloučenin. Zinkové komplexy mohou být díky svým unikátním vlastnostem použity při protinádorové léčbě. Abychom tento fakt potvrdily, byla zkoumána toxicita zinkových komplexů s obsahem thiodikarboxylových kyselin a fenanthrolinu a sledována jejich reaktivita s lidskými nádorovými buňkami prsu a interakce s červenými krvinkami. Díky výsledkům této práce můžeme určit využití zinkových komplexů a navrhnout další postupy testování.

Abstract:

The coordination compounds consist of a central ion, which is most often represented by a metal, and a ligand. One of the most important metal elements for life in general is zinc. It has unique properties such as the development of the integrity of the respiratory epithelium, nervous and immune systems, bone development, and the fight against infections. It is vital for taste and smell, essential for skin cell renewal, aids in protein synthesis or acts as an antioxidant. Its ability to coordinate flexibility and possible activation of Lewis acid makes it a candidate for the formation of stable compounds. Due to their unique properties, zinc complexes can be used in antitumor therapy. To confirm this, the toxicity of zinc complexes containing thiodicarboxylic acids and phenanthroline was investigated and their reactivity with human breast cancer cells and interactions with red blood cells were monitored. Thanks to the results of this work, we can determine the use of zinc complexes and design further testing procedures.
