The Reception of the Faust Figure in Selected Literary Works of the 20th and 21st Centuries

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis deals with the character of Faust in the works Faust by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe; Mephisto - Novel of a Career by Klaus Mann; Doctor Faustus by Thomas Mann and Der Spielmann: Die Geschichte des Johann Georg Faustus by Oliver Pötzsch. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to describe the development of the perception of the Faust character during the 20th and 21st centuries. For this reason, the method of comparing individual works is used. The fundamental character of the whole comparison is Faust by Johann W. von Goethe. This character is compared with the characters of Hendrik Höfgen, Adrian Leverkühn and Johann Georg. The theoretical part deals with the time of creation of individual works. In the practical part, individual characters are gradually compared with regard to the situations in which they find themselves.

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá postavou Fausta v dílech Faust od Johanna Wolfganga von Goetha, Mefisto: román jedné kariéry od Klause Manna, Doktor Faustus od Thomase Manna a také v díle Kejklíř: Životní příběh Johanna Georga Fausta od Olivera Pötzsche. Cílem této bakalářské práce je znázornit vývoj vnímání postavy Fausta v průběhu 20. a 21. století. Z tohoto důvodu je použita metoda komparace jednotlivých děl. Výchozí postavou celé komparace je Faust od Johanna W. von Goetha. Tato výchozí postava se porovnává s postavami Hendrika Höfgena, Adriana Leverkühna a Johanna Georga. Teoretická část se zabývá dobou vzniku jednotlivých děl. V praktické části se již postupně porovnávají jednotlivé postavy s ohledem na situace, ve kterých se nacházejí.
