Abstract:

Tato bakalářská diplomová práce zkoumá, jak britský autor Roald Dahl pracuje s temnotou a humorem ve vybraných povídkách „Muž z jihu“, „Skopové na porážku“ a „Prase“. Práce se rovněž zabývá vlivem, který tato neobyčejná kombinace může mít na čtenáře, a účelem povídek, které mají na první pohled za cíl pouze pobavit anebo šokovat. Analytický přístup je založen na zkoumání propojení tragických a komických prvků, které jsou základními komponenty černého humoru. Ten je stěžejní pro dynamiku Dahlova jedinečného vypravěčství, jež z něho učinilo jednoho z nejoblíbenějších autorů 20. století.

Abstract:

This Bachelor’s Diploma Thesis explores how the British author Roald Dahl works with darkness and humour in the selected short stories “Man from the South”, “Lamb to the Slaughter”, and “Pig”. The thesis is also concerned with the effects this unusual combination might have on the reader and the purpose of the short stories, which at first glance seem to be intended only to shock or entertain the reader. The analytical approach is based on the connection between tragic and comic elements, which are the basic components of dark humour. Dark humour is crucial for the dynamic of Dahl‘s unique storytelling, which made him one of the most favourite authors of the 20th century.
