Dripwater hydrogeochemistry in the caves of Moravian Karst

Abstract:

Klíčovým faktorem při vzniku kalcitových speleotém jsou skapové vody. Analýza přejatých hydrogeologických dat z dvou skapů v Punkevních jeskyních naznačila některé závislosti mezi proměnnými. Oba sledované skapy ukazují pozitivní korelaci mezi pH a saturačním indexem (r = 0,99 a r = 0,91), zřejmě jako důsledek odplynění do společných prostor jeskyně. Vydatnost s konduktivitou u jednoho skapu korelovala negativně (r = -0,59), u druhého skapu pozitivně (r = 0,56). Pozitivní korelace však nebyla potvrzena Spearmanovou korelací. Případná závislost mineralizace (konduktivity) vody na průtoku (vydatnosti) by mohla souviset s dynamikou rozpouštění CO2 a kalcitu v epikrase. U jednoho skapu záporně korelovala vydatnost s pH (r = -0,66) a také se saturačním indexem (r = -0,54). Případná závislost by mohla souviset s dynamikou odplyňování, avšak u druhého skapu nebyla potvrzena. Vybrané skapové vody byly trvale přesycené kalcitem, koroze speleotém u sledovaných skapů nebyla prokázána.

Abstract:

Dripwaters are the key factor for forming of calcite speleothems. An analysis of borrowed hydrogeological data of two dripwaters in Punkva Caves indicates some relations between variables. Both of these dripwaters are showing positive correlation between pH and saturation index (r = 0.99 and r = 0.91), which is apparently as the result of the CO2 degassing into cave atmosphere. The correlation between drip rate and conductivity of the first dripwater was negative (r = -0.59), whereas the correlation of the second dripwater was positive (r = 0.56). However, the positive correlation was not confirmed by the Spearman correlation. The possible dependency of the conductivity on drip rate could be connected to the dynamics of CO2 dissolution and calcite dissolution in epikarst. The drip rate of one dripwater correlated negatively with the pH (r = -0.66) and with the saturation index (r = -0.54). The possible dependency could relate to dynamics of the CO2 degassing, although it was not confirmed in the second dripwater. The selected dripwaters were constantly supersaturated with calcite, a corrosion of speleothems was not proved for the dripwaters under observation.
