Abstract:

V této bakalářské práci se věnujeme matematickému pohledu na procesy, ve kterých se objevují oscilace. Oscilace a jevy s nimi spojené jsou běžné v mnoha přírodních i člověkem vytvořených systémech a matematické modely jsou nástrojem, který může vý- razně napomoci lepšímu chápání jejich dynamiky. Ve vývoji vědeckých oborů, jako jsou biochemie, neurověda nebo epidemiologie, sehrály navíc významnou úlohu při vysvětlení jevů, které s oscilační dynamikou souvisejí. V této práci analyzujeme matematické modely založené na diferenciálních rovnicích, přičemž výběr modelů je dán právě jejich význa- mem v daném vědním oboru. Jde jednak o vysvětlení chemických oscilací v Selkovově biochemickém modelu glykolýzy, jednak o vysvětlení typických přerušovaných oscilací neuronu a také o vysvětlení vzniku epidemických vln. Zejména se snažíme vysvětlit, jak a které parametry systému toto chování způsobují a jak lze tyto oscilace tlumit nebo zesilovat. K tomu používáme jak symbolické výpočty, tak numerické simulace. Ukážeme, že součástí analýzy vybraných systémů jsou tzv. bifurkační parametry, přičemž i malé změny těchto parametrů mohou mít na samotnou existenci oscilací velký vliv. Důležitou součástí této bakalářské práce je také interpretace modelů v kontextu příslušných vědních oborů a stru- čné představení jejich historického vývoje. Celkově je cílem poskytnout základní přehled, jak o matematické formulaci modelů s oscilacemi, tak o jejich možných aplikacích.

Abstract:

In this bachelor thesis we take a mathematical view of the processes in which oscillati- ons occur. Oscillations and the phenomena associated with them are common in many natural and man-made systems, and mathematical models are a tool that can greatly aid in better understanding their dynamics. Moreover, in the development of scientific fields such as biochemistry, neuroscience, and epidemiology, they have played a significant role in explaining phenomena related to oscillatory dynamics. In this paper we analyze mathe- matical models based on differential equations, the choice of models being determined precisely by their importance in a given scientific field. These include, first, an explanation of chemical oscillations in Selkov’s biochemical model of glycolysis, second, an expla- nation of the typical intermittent oscillations of a neuron, and finally, an explanation of the occurrence of epidemic waves. In particular, we seek to explain how and which system parameters cause this behavior and how these oscillations can be dampened or amplified. To do this, we use both symbolic calculations and numerical simulations. We show that the selected systems include so-called bifurcation parameters, and that even small changes in these parameters can have a large impact on the very existence of the oscillations. An important part of this bachelor thesis is also the interpretation of the models in the context of the relevant disciplines and a brief introduction of their historical development. Overall, the aim is to provide a basic overview, both of the mathematical formulation of models with oscillations and of their possible applications.
