Biography of Serge Gainsbourg: translation and analysis

Abstract:

The aim of diploma thesis called Biography of Serge Gainsbourg: translation and analysis is to translate and analyse a part of biographical book written by musical journalist Gilles Verlant. The thesis is divided into three main parts. In the first one the book and the character of Serge Gainsbourg are presented. The second part consists of the translation itself which is situated in parallel with the originál french text for better clarity and is followed by an analysis of the translation. It is dedicated to a number of translatological issues. For exemple, whether and how the language influences the perception of reality of its speaker? Then the methods of translation are presented. The subchapter of stylistic analysis deals with typical features of the translated text: colloquial language, use of anglicisms and musical terms. The last part is focused on the problems we experienced during the translation process.

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práce s názvem Biographie de Serge Gainsbourg : traduction et analyse si klade za cíl překlad, a jeho následnou analýzu, části životopisné knihy, jejímž autorem je hudební publicista Gilles Verlant. Práce je rozdělena do třech částí. V té první je představena kniha a osobnost Serge Gainsbourga. Druhá část je tvořena samotným překladem, který je pro lepší přehlednost umístěn paralelně vedle originálního francouzského textu. Následuje analýza překladu. Ta se věnuje několika překladatelským problematikám. Vyvstává zde otázka, jestli a jak jazyk ovlivňuje myšlení a vnímání mluvčího? Dále jsou představeny základní překladatelské postupy, které jsou doplněny příklady textu. V podkapitole věnující se stylistické analýze se dočítáme o typických rysech přeloženého textu, jako jsou: hovorový jazyk, časté užití anglicismů a hudební pojmy. V poslední části jsou rozebrány problémy, s nimiž jsme se během překladu setkali.
