Toilet Training of Children

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je práce teoretického typu. Věnuje se rešerši odborných prací publikovaných v češtině a angličtině, které jsou zaměřeny na metodiku a aspekty nácviku používání toalety u dětí. Teoretická část shrnuje fyziologii vyprazdňování s následnou charakteristikou nejčastěji publikovaných metodik nácviku toalety u dětí. Praktická část popisuje způsob provedení rešerše odborné literatury a uvádí tři příklady zpracování publikovaného textu. V závěru je zdůrazněná nedostatečná standardizace pojmů v problematice, která platí pro literaturu publikovanou jak v češtině, tak v angličtině, a bez které není možné provést rozsáhlejší studii poskytující podklady k řádnému srovnání jednotlivých metodik a jejich následnému cílenému uplatnění v pediatrické praxi.

Abstract:

This is a bachelor thesis reviewing literature on methodological aspects of the toilet training in children. The thesis focuses on peer-reviewed work written in Czech or in English. First chapters provide introduction into physiology of human urination and defecation, followed by a review of the most common methodologies for toilet training in children, as published in western literature. The review is concluded with possible role of pediatricians and nurses in the training process. The second half of the thesis describes methods and resources used for collection of presented material, and demonstrates the paper review process on three selected examples of previously published work. The thesis concludes with discussion on learned status of the toilet training in respect to research questions set in the aims of this work, emphasizing the lack of direct comparison of individual training methodologies needed for pediatric practice, and the alarming lack of standardization of terms by which the comparison should be performed. This applies to literature written both in Czech and in English.
