Similarities and differences in the perception of the psychological aspects of Holocaust trauma transfer in the first and second generation survivors

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je prozkoumat, jaké jsou shody a rozdíly ve vnímání vybraných psychologických aspektů přenosu traumatu holocaustu u první a druhé generace přeživších holocaust. V teoretické části je vymezen koncept posttraumatické stresové poruchy, posttraumatického růstu, mezigeneračního přenosu a dalších aspektů, jež byly ovlivněny holocaustem u prvních dvou generací přeživších. Konceptualizace těchto pojmů se stala základem studie, jež byla provedena formou polostrukturovaných rozhovorů. Respondenty této práce byli přeživší holocaust a potomci přeživších, kteří se narodili po válce. V metodologické části je popsán podrobněji proces sběru dat a jejich analýzy. Výsledky této diplomové práce ukazují pět hlavních témat souvisejících s první generací přeživších holocaust a čtyři hlavní témata související s druhou generací. Mezi tato témata patří identita a židovství, historie, hodnoty, symptomy posttraumatické stresové poruchy a vliv na rodinné vazby a u první generace přeživších i posttraumatický růst. Každé z témat obsahuje další podkategorie, jež byly pro respondenty ve vztahu k holocaustu důležité. V diskuzi jsou pak srovnány výsledky této práce s výsledky studií vzniklých dříve a srovnání je pak zasazeno do prostředí naší země.

Abstract:

The aim of this diploma thesis is to explore the differences in the perception of chosen psychological aspects of Holocaust trauma transfer in the first and the second generation of Holocaust survivors. The theoretical part defines the concept of post-traumatic stress disorder, post-traumatic growth, transgenerational transmission and other aspects influenced by the Holocaust in the first two generations of survivors. The conceptualization of these concepts became the basis of the study, which was conducted in the form of semi-structured interviews. The respondents of this thesis were Holocaust survivors and descendants of survivors who were born after the war. In the methodological part, the process of data collection and analysis is described in more detail. The results of this thesis show five main topics related to the first generation of Holocaust survivors and four main topics related to the second generation. These topics include identity and Judaism, history, values, symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, and influence on family relationships and, in the first generation of survivors, posttraumatic growth. Each topic contains additional sub-categories that were relevant to the respondents in relation to the Holocaust. The discussion then compares the results of this work with the results of earlier studies and compares them to our country.
