Abstract:

Tato disertační práce shrnuje zjištění několika experimentálních studií, které využívají technologii imerzivní virtuální reality (IVR), a zasazuje je do širšího kontextu aplikace virtuální reality v psychologickém výzkumu. Úvod disertace popisuje srozumitelný rámec pro design výzkumů v IVR, při čemž předkládá definice různých typů využití a podmínek, při nichž je IVR pro výzkum přínosná. Po úvodní části následuje odkaz na první z vědeckých článků zahrnutých do disertace, který popisuje původní digitální nástroj pro design a administraci výzkumů v IVR. Tento nástroj byl vyvinut tak, aby odpovídal potřebám dvou výzkumů popsaných dále v této práci (a mnoha dalších). Druhá, třetí a čtvrtá studie slouží jako příklady využití IVR ve výzkumu zaměřeném na kognitivní procesy a afektivní a sociální zkušenosti. Diskuse poté shrnuje výhody a nevýhody IVR v psychologickém výzkumu a přináší doporučení, která směřují k optimalizaci validity psychologického výzkumu využívajícího tuto technologii.

Abstract:

This doctoral thesis merges the findings from several experimental studies which employed immersive virtual reality (IVR) technologies and positions them in the broader context of virtual reality applied in psychological research. The thesis introduction describes a comprehensive framework for IVR research design, with definitions of various applications and settings where IVR can deliver interesting benefits. The introduction is followed by the first listed study which describes an original digital tool for designing and administering experiments in IVR. The tool was designed and developed to suit the research needs of the following two presented studies (and many others). The second, third, and fourth studies present examples of IVR used in research to explore cognitive processes and affective and social experience. Finally, the discussion summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of IVR in psychological research and proposes measures for delivering valid research in the field of psychology using these technologies.
