Employee Stress and Stressful Situations in Financial Institutions

Abstract:

Stres je základní faktor života dnešního moderního člověka. Je vnímán především jako faktor škodlivý, avšak přiměřená úroveň stresu je přirozenou součástí a podmínkou života nejen člověka, ale i většiny vyšších živých organismů. Mírou stresu v pracovním procesu se zabývá většina oborů lidské činnosti v souvislosti s efektivitou práce a řízení. Předkládaná práce se věnuje stresu a stresovým situacím u pracovníků finančních institucí, neboť to odpovídá zaměření mého studia a je to téma, s nímž v praxi ve finančních institucích přijdu do kontaktu a jeho řešení považuji za významné i objektivně. Cílem práce je popsat základní příčiny, projevy a následky stresu u pracovníků v podnikové sféře a navrhnout odpovídající, alespoň částečné řešení, které by mělo možnost tento jev upravit a eliminovat. Práce má teoreticko-empirický charakter. V teoretické části práce je pozornost věnována především pojmu stres, charakteristice hlavních stresorů v pracovních podmínkách, charakteristice finančních institucí a sociopsychickým následkům vlivu stresu na člověka. Dílčí kapitola se věnuje rovněž pozitivní funkci stresu. Empirická část práce se snažila zjistit s využitím dotazníkové metody výzkumu, v jaké míře působí stres na pracovníky zvolených institucí objektivně i subjektivně vnímaný. V závěru práce jsou formulovány dílčí náměty, jak udržet stres jako faktor pracovního úspěchu a efektivity pod kontrolou a k prospěchu firmy i zaměstnance.

Abstract:

Stress is a basic factor in modern human life. It is seen mainly as a harmful factor but a reasonable level of stress is a natural part and even a precondition of life, not only of humans but also most living higher organisms. The level of stress in a working process is examined throughout most human activities in connection with the efficiency of work and management. The presented thesis discusses the level of stress and stressful situations experienced by the staff of financial institutions as this is the focus of my studies and a topic I deal with in my work for financial institutions. I consider the solution to this issue to be very important, also from the objective point of view. The goal of my thesis was to describe the basic causes, demonstrations and consequences of stress for business staff and to propose a relevant, at least partial, solution, which might be able to correct this phenomenon and eliminate it. The thesis has a theoretical and empirical character. The theory part focuses, in particular, on the definition of stress, the characteristics of main stressors in working conditions, the characteristics of financial institutions and the socio-psychological consequences of stress on humans. A separate chapter also deals with a positive level of stress. The empirical part of my thesis has employed survey questionnaires in an attempt to establish the level of stress perceived, both objectively and subjectively, by the members of staff at the selected institutions. The conclusion states suggestions for keeping the level of stress under control so that it acts as a factor of working success and efficiency and thus contributes both to the benefit of the company and the employee.
