Medical diplomacy as a tool of Cuban foreign policy

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá úlohou lékařské diplomacie v zahraniční politice Kuby. V teoretické části jsou vymezeny pojmy soft power, veřejné diplomacie, humanitární pomoci a lékařské diplomacie. Poté je představen historický vývoj kubánských internacionálních lékařských aktivit a jejich podoba v současnosti. Analytická část zkoumá užití lékařské diplomacie Kubou vůči zahraničním státům a sleduje proměnu vzájemných obchodních vztahů a postoje těchto zemí k americkému embargu. Pracujeme s teorií, dle které by implementace této politiky měla Kubě generovat finanční zisky a ovlivňovat chování recipientských států.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the role of medical diplomacy in foreign policy of Cuba. The theoretical part defines the concepts of soft power, public diplomacy, humanitarian aid and medical diplomacy. Then it is described historical development of Cuban international medical activities and their appearance today. The analytical part examines using of medical diplomacy by Cuba to the foreign countries and monitors the transformation of mutual trade relations and attitudes of these countries to the U. S. embargo. We work with the theory, according to which the implementation of this policy should generate financial profits to Cuba and influence behavior of recipient states.
