María Zambrano and Poetic-Reason: (Re-)writings the Myth of Antigone

Abstract:

María Zambrano (1904-1991), Spanish philosopher and writer, created her own peculiar and on the first look paradoxical metaphysical concept which can be labeled as "razón poética" (poetical sense). The poetical sense originates from the historical sense ("razón vital o histórica") of her teacher José Ortega y Gasset. Nevertheless, the poetical sense overcomes it and shifts it from the level of historical imanence to the atemporal transcendence which in the same time draws inspiration from the mysticism and Christian theology. The concept of María Zambrano also arises as a response to the Platonian schism of philosophy and literature and Zambrano sees in this schism the outset of rationalism and she blames it of the crisis of the contemporary European society. Therefore, this Diploma Thesis first tries to reconstruct the influences and biographical itinerary (as a perceptive experience: mainly the ontological experience of the exile) which form the basis for Zambrano´s inspiration for her philosophical-poetical images. These images are created on certain epistemologic fracture when the concept of thinking has been moving away from the expression and the word which evokes it. Zambrano conceives these specific images as a „metaphore“. The second part of the work attempts to present their configurations and then to bring examples in the third part dedicated to the play La tumba de Antígona (The toon of Antigonina). The author approaches the personality of Antigona as „certain projection screen“ of personal fantasm when the character becomes not only the encarnation of the poetical sense and the reflection of author´s life experience, but also the incarnation of the Christian love which for Zambrano is the only solution to escape the fatality of the modern society and its rationality.

María Zambrano (1904-1991), španělská filosofka a spisovatelka, se do dějin filosofie zapsala vlastním osobitým, na první pohled paradoxním, metafyzickým konceptem, jímž je „razón poética“ (poetický rozum). Poetický rozum vychází z historického rozumu („razón vital o histórica“) jejího učitele Josého Ortegy y Gasseta. Poetický rozum jej však překračuje a posouvá z roviny historické imanence k atemporální transcedenci, která současně čerpá z mystiky a křesťanské teologie. Koncept Maríe Zambrano rovněž vzniká jako odpověď na platónské schizma filosofie a literatury, v němž filosofka vidí počátek racionalismu, který obviňuje z krize, v níž se nachází současná evropská společnost. Magisterská práce se tedy ve své první části snaží o rekonstrukci vlivů a biografického itineráře (jakožto perceptivní zkušenosti; především jde o ontologickou zkušenost exilu), z nichž autorka čerpá inspiraci pro své filosoficko-poetické obrazy. Tyto obrazy se formují na základě určitého epistemologického zlomu, kdy se myšlenkový koncept vzdaluje svému vyjádření, a tedy i slovu, které jej evokuje. Zambrano tyto specifické obrazy vnímá jako „metafory“. Druhá část práce se pokouší o představení jejich konfigurace a dále je exemplifikuje i ve své třetí části, věnované hře La tumba de Antígona (Antigonina hrobka). Postavu Antigony spisovatelka pojímá jako „určité projekční plátno“ vlastního fantasmatu, kdy se postava stává nejen ztělesněním poetického rozumu a odrazem autorčiny životní zkušenosti, ale i inkarnací křesťanské lásky, v níž spatřuje jediné řešení, které uniká fatalitě moderní společnosti a jejímu racionalismu.
