Abstract:

Název diplomové práce je Význam instrukcí při výuce výslovnosti různých věkových skupin. Pro většinu českých učitelů angličtiny je výuka výslovnosti na okraji zájmu. Učitelé očekávají, že se jejich studenti naučí správně vyslovovat anglická slova pouhým napodobováním jejich výslovnosti, a to buď prostřednictvím samotného učitele, nebo různých audio nahrávek rodilých mluvčích. Lze předpokládat, že výslovnost studentů by mohla být mnohem preciznější, kdyby k ní byli cíleně vedeni svými učiteli. Cílem této práce je zjistit a popsat, do jaké míry mohou tyto instrukce pomoci potenciálním studentům angličtiny s výslovností určitých anglických hlásek, které jsou odlišné od těch českých. Práce je rozdělena do dvou částí. Teoretická část popisuje strategie a přístupy k výuce anglické výslovnosti a též vliv českého jazyka a věku studentů na tuto výuku. Praktická část se zabývá analýzou získaných dat a využitím poznatků z výzkumu při výuce výslovnosti.

Abstract:

The title of the diploma thesis is The Importance of Instructions in Teaching Pronunciation to Various Age Groups. Many Czech teachers of English take little interest in pronunciation teaching and they expect their learners to master appropriate pronunciation by mere imitation of either the teacher or various audio-recordings of English speakers. However, it is supposable that the accuracy in the learners’ pronunciation would be much greater if they were instructed on how to pronounce. The aim of the thesis is to find out to what degree it helps potential learners of English to be instructed on how to pronounce particular English sounds which differ from those of their mother tongue. The thesis is divided into two parts. The theoretical part deals with the strategies and approaches in teaching pronunciation, and the influence of the Czech language and the learners’ age on the teaching process. The empirical part comprises the analyses of the research data and the implications of the findings for pronunciation teaching.
