This bachelor’s thesis primarily focuses on the characters of mothers in the novels The Summer Before the Dark and The Fifth Child written by British author Doris Lessing. In the four chapters, the thesis introduces relevant events that affected Lessing’s works, analyses the perceptions of freedom of the characters of mothers, the ways they attempt to achieve their freedom, and offers the comparison …more
