"Zero Years" Painting : The Phenomenon of Painting Medium in Slovakia 2000–2010

Abstract:

The master’s thesis deals with Slovak contemporary painting of zero years (2000–2010) with the accent on Slovak Fine Art Academies, then at their painting studios, and at their students. Painting as a medium is more or less connected with the development of painting at the European art scene as well as with the political situation in Slovakia. Panting, as well as the whole field of art and culture, was definitely affected by the cultural policy. In the first case, the thesis introduces the situation in Slovakia of the second half of the 20th century to the reader. After that, it describes the peripeteia of painting and its renaissance connected with the access of the new young generation of painters to Slovak art scene after 2000. Mostly, they are students and graduates of the studios of Ivan Csudai and Daniel Fischer. Later in those years, the interest comes upon art scene of Košice and students of studios of Adam Szentpétery and Rudolf Sikora. Topographically, the Slovak art scene is completed with art academy in Banská Bystrica, whose students became popular not until 2010. Today, these painters of the middle generation entered the Slovak art scene as a strong generation of painters, who changed the situation in the local painting department. Big format of hanging pictures, acrylic paint, new media, internet, computer, and photography became their attributes, which they returned painting into the present with. The thesis is closed with the view on the legacy of Slovak contemporary painting. The art marked was definitely touched by the contemporary painting by auctions, collections of private collectors and institutions, and also by private galleries.

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práca sa zaoberá súčasnou slovenskou maľbou nultých rokov (2000–2010) s dôrazom na slovenské výtvarné školy, na ich ateliéry maľby a na študentov maľby. Médium maľby je do určitej miery spojené s vývojom maľby na európskej výtvarnej scéne, a rovnako aj s politickou situáciou na Slovensku. Kultúrna politika sa dotkla aj média maľby, tak ako celej oblasti umenia a kultúry. Úlohou práce je v prvom rade uviesť čitateľa do politickej, spoločenskej a kultúrnej situácie na Slovensku. Následne práca opisuje peripetie maľby a jej renesanciu spojenú so vstupom novej mladej generácie maliarov na slovenskú umeleckú scénu po roku 2000. Ide najmä o študentov a absolventov maľby ateliérov prof. Ivana Csudaia a prof. Daniela Fischera. Neskôr v daných rokoch prichádza záujem aj o košickú scénu a jej študentov z ateliérov doc. Adama Szentpéteryho a prof. Rudolfa Sikoru. Topografické zaradenie dopĺňa banskobystrická akadémia, ktorej študenti maľby sa prejavili najmä až po roku 2010. Títo maliari, dnes už patriaci do strednej generácie, vstúpili na umeleckú scénu ako silná maliarska generácia, ktorá zmenila situáciu v domácom odvetví maľby. Veľkoformátový závesný obraz, akrylová farba, nové média, internet, práca s počítačom a fotografiou sa stali ich atribútmi, ktoré vrátili maľbu na miesto, ktoré jej patrí. Prácu uzatvára pohľad na dedičstvo súčasnej slovenskej maľby spojené s jej ohlasmi na umelecký trh, ktorý sa jednoznačne formoval vďaka aukciám, zbierkam súkromných zberateľov a inštitúcií, ako aj vďaka súkromným galériám.
