Mixed oxides as catalysts for the preparation of higher alcohols from ethanol

Abstract:

Práce popisuje přeměnu ethanolu na vyšší alkoholy pomocí Guerbetovy reakce katalyzované směsnými oxidy kovů. V teoretické části práce jsou uvedeny možnosti valorizace ethanolu, základy katalýzy a vlastnosti materiálů, jejichž syntézou se práce zabývá, včetně popisu relevantních analytických metod. Samostatná kapitola se věnuje Guerbetově reakci. V rámci experimentální části práce byly syntetizovány směsné oxidy Li, Ni a Al o různých molárních poměrech kovů a byly charakterizovány pomocí několika analytických metod (např. ICP-MS, XRD). Tyto materiály byly použity jako katalyzátory. Výsledky katalytických testů, jejichž produkty byly analyzovány pomocí plynové chromatografie, byly vyhodnoceny s pomocí vytvořeného Python programu, který vyhodnocení dat zjednodušuje.

Abstract:

The work describes the conversion of ethanol to higher alcohols using the Guerbet reaction catalyzed by mixed metal oxides. The theoretical part of the thesis presents the possibilities of ethanol valorization, the basics of catalysis and the properties of materials whose synthesis is dealt with, including a description of relevant analytical methods. A separate chapter is devoted to Guerbet's reaction. In the experimental part of the work, mixed oxides of Li, Ni and Al with different molar ratios of metals were synthesized and characterized using several analytical methods (e.g. ICP-MS, XRD). These materials were used as catalysts. The results of the catalytic tests, the products of which were analyzed using gas chromatography, were evaluated with the help of a created Python program that simplifies the data processing.
