Career of law students in a context of development of artificial intelligence tools and related psychological aspects: Qualitative study

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá zkoumáním vlivu umělé inteligence (AI) na studenty právnických fakult a psychologickými dopady, které tento pokrok v technologii přináší pro jejich kariérový rozvoj. V práci je věnována pozornost jak obecným principům AI, tak specifickým aplikacím AI v právní praxi a dopadům na právní povolání. Dále práce prozkoumává, jak se studenti práv vypořádávají s nejistotou a možným strachem ze ztráty pracovního uplatnění v důsledku rostoucího významu AI a její integrace do jejich budoucích profesních rolí a právní oblasti obecně. Tato práce je postavena na kvalitativním výzkumném designu, přičemž získávání dat proběhlo pomocí polostrukturovaných rozhovorů se šesti participanty. Rozhovory byly následně analyzovány skrze metodu tematické analýzy. Důraz byl kladen na vnímání AI, identifikaci emocionálních reakcí a copingových strategií, které studenti využívají k adaptaci na tyto změny. Dále se práce zaměřovala na subjektivně pociťovaný vliv AI na kariéru a na strategie adaptace zaměřených do budoucna. Výsledky naznačují, že přestože se pouze u části participantů objevuje téma strachu a obav z AI, tak se obecně zdá, že nejoblíbenější strategie k regulaci emocí zahrnuje přicházení do kontaktu s AI a učení se, jak s ní pracovat. Subjektivně pociťovaný vliv na kariéru se oproti původním očekáváním zdá být většinou spíše neutrální nebo pozitivní.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis explores the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on law students and the psychological implications that these advances in technology have for their career development. The thesis focuses on both the general principles of AI and the specific applications of AI in legal practice and the implications for the legal profession. Further, the thesis explores how law students deal with the uncertainty and potential fear of losing their jobs as a result of the growing importance of AI and its integration into their future professional roles and the legal field in general. This thesis is based on a qualitative research design, with data collection conducted through semi-structured interviews with six participants. The interviews were then analysed through the method of thematic analysis. The focus was on perceptions of AI, identifying emotional reactions and coping strategies used by students to adapt to these changes. Furthermore, the thesis focused on the subjectively felt impact of AI on careers and future-oriented adaptation strategies. The results suggest that although only a portion of the participants have themes of fear and apprehension about AI, in general the most popular strategy to regulate emotions seems to involve coming into contact with AI and learning how to work with it. The subjectively felt impact on careers appears to be mostly neutral or positive compared to initial expectations.
