Psychosocial stress assessment in working settings

Abstract:

Diagnostika stresu v organizaci je složitou záležitostí, a to především, bereme-li v úvahu srovnávání mezi jednotlivými pracovními odvětvími. Metoda Working Conditions and Control Questionnaire (WOCCQTool), která byla vyvinuta na katedře Psychologie na l´Université de Liege v Belgii, nabízí možnost tohoto srovnání. Tato metoda sestává ze třech částí: (1) z dotazníku WOCCQ, který měří pociťovanou kontrolu nad pracovními podmínkami v šesti oblastech (kontrola nad prostředky, řízením práce, riziky, plánováním práce, řízení času a budoucností), (2) z dotazníku SPPN (Stres professionnel positif et negatif) měřící pociťovaný pracovní eustres a distres a (3) ze třech otevřených otázek zjišťujících konkrétní stresové situace, které respondenti ve svém pracovním prostředí zažívají. V rámci této studie byla provedena konfirmatorní faktorová analýza šesti-faktorového modelu dotazníku WOCCQ a dvou-faktorového modelu SPPN a jejich vazeb (strukturní model definovaný dle Hansez a De Keyser, 2003) na vzorku 313 respondentů z prostředí ICT organizací a IT oddělení v České republice. Tento model musel být na základě posouzení stanovených kritérií zamítnut. Avšak na základě získaných dat byl pomocí exploratorní faktorové analýzy ověřen faktorový model dotazníku SPPN. U dotazníku WOCCQ byla dále pomocí exploratorní faktorové analýzy identifikována tří-faktorová struktura dotazníku, avšak bez možnosti výraznější teoretické interpretace. Součástí studie jsou návrhy na další výzkumné záměry, které by podpořily zkoumanou oblast.

Abstract:

The stress assessment inside the organization is very difficult and complex process, especially when comparisons across different professions have been considered. The WOrking Condition and Control Questionnaire (WOCCQTool), which was developed in department of Psychology at University of Liege in Belgium, offers means of making such comparisons. This method is theory-based and assess the job stress in three ways: (1) the questionnaire WOCCQ assess subjectively perceived control over the stressors arose from 6 areas of working settings (control over ressources, task management, risks, planning, time management and future), (2) Stress professionnel positif et negatif (SPPN) questionnaire assess subjectively perceived eustress and distress in working settings and (3) three opened questions discover particular stress situations experienced by workers in the working settings. The current study reports the findings of confirmatory factor analyses of the six-factor model of WOCCQ and two-factor model of SPPN and their interactions defined by the structural model constituted by Hansez and DeKeyser (2003), using a sample of 313 respondents from the working environment of ICT organizations and IT departments in the Czech republic. The fixed criteria were assessed and the structural hypotheses were rejected. The study also reports the findings of exploratory factor analyses of factor structure of questionnaires separately. The two-factor structure of SPPN was confirmed, the six-factor structure of WOCCQ was rejected and new three-factor solution was found but without a possibility of quality theoretical interpretation. Ways of future research were discussed.
