History, developement and current use of orchestral bells

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je proniknout do hluboké historie a vývoje orchestrálních zvonů, seznámit se starověkými předchůdci a prvními podobami tohoto nástroje, napříč kontinenty. Dalším aspektem je přiřazení nástroje podle původního užití skrze jednotlivé kultury a národy. Po prozkoumání nástrojů ve starověkých zemích a vývoje zvonů ve středověku se přesuneme k postupným využitím zvonů v orchestrech. Kdo byli první skladatelé, jaké formy nástroje použili a jak vypadala cesta inovace k dnešní, finální podobě orchestrálních zvonů. Následují rozbory jednotlivých partů pro zvony a jejich symbolika ve skladbách.

Abstract:

The goal of this thesis is to penetrate into the deep history and development of orchestral bells, to get acquainted with ancient predecessors and the first forms of this instrument, across continents. Another aspect is the assignment of the instrument according to the original use through individual cultures and nations. After exploring instruments in ancient lands and the development of bells in the Middle Ages, we will move on to the gradual use of bells in orchestras. Who were the first composers, which forms of instruments did they use and what did the path of innovation look like to today's, final form of orchestral bells. The following are analyzes of individual parts for bells and their symbolism in the compositions.
