Diagnostic of executive cognitive functions in middle childhood age children

Abstract:

Základním cílem této bakalářské práce bylo ověřit možnosti a limity využití MoCA-CZ1 v kontextu diagnostiky exekutivních funkcí u dětí mladšího školního věku. Teoretická část zpracovává problematiku děti v mladším školním věku, jejich vývoj na úrovni sociální, emoční, kognitivní, tělesné a motorické. Dále je zpracováno téma exekutivních funkcí u dětí mladšího školního věku, rozvoj tohoto fenoménu, teoretické modely a příklady poruch exekutivních funkcí. Výzkumná část obsahuje deskriptivní, explorační a statistické zpracování všech získaných dat. Pro výzkumnou část byl zvolen test MoCA-CZ1 u souboru 168 dětí ve věku 6-12 let pro zmapování výkonnosti ve vybraných sub škálách ve vztahu k exekutivním funkcím. Zjištění této práce vnášejí přehled do možností a limitů využití testu MoCA-CZ1 pro diagnostiku možných poruch exekutivních funkcí u dětí mladšího školního věku. Děti ve věku 12 let dosahovaly významně lepších výsledků než děti ve věku 6-7 let v testech sledující inhibici, selektivní pozornost, operační paměť, logické myšlení či abstraktní a analogické myšlení.

Abstract:

Main aim of this bachelor's thesis was to verify possibilities and limitations of using MoCA-CZ1 in context of diagnostics of executive functions in middle childhood chidlren. Theoretical part is aimed towards explaining the middle childhood and its development on social, emotional, cognitive, physical and motoric level. Next chapter contains insight into executive functions in middle childhood, its specificity, theoretical models and possible dysfunctions. Research part is composed of descriptive, explorative and statistical analysis of all available pieces of acquired data. For this purpose, MoCA-CZ1 had been used in 168 children in the age 6-12 years to determine performance in chosen sub scales, which measure executive functions. Acquired pieces of information are used to determine the possibilites and limitations of using MoCA-CZ1 for diagnostic purposes in relation to the executive functions in middle childhood. Results of this work confirm that there is a significant difference in performance between children in middle childhood. In regard to executive functions such as inhibition, selective attention, working memory, logical, abstract and analogical thinking. Older children show significantly better performances than their younger counterparts.
