Internal Lexical Structure and Collocability (A case study)
Abstract:
Tato práce se zabývá rozdíly mezi dvěma anglickými adjektivy, quiet a silent, která jsou běžně považována za synonyma. Na základě analýzy v Britském národním korpusu a částečně také v Korpusu současné americké angličtiny je dokázáno, že ačkoliv tato adjektiva nejsou absolutními synonymy, lze je v jistých významech zaměnit.
Abstract:
This thesis deals with the difference between two selected adjectives, quiet and silent, which are usually regarded as synonyms. The analysis based on the British National Corpus and also, partially, the Corpus of Contemporary American English proves that although these adjectives are not absolutely synonymous, they can replace each other in several contexts when they share the same meanings.
