Postholocaust Jewish identity

Abstract:

Jews who are in the center of this dissertation is a group which is of secular life attitude and is characteristic by full integration in the majority society. The hypotese of this paper is that a jewishness wich is pecieved and absorbed by this group as an aspect of their selfdefinition is of major part rooted in so called heritage of holocaust (Bauman:1989). More precisely it is a kind of negative identity which is percieved as a „message“ relied to a sort of stigma and deals with the history of suffering of jewish nation since ancient times till shoah. The dissertation will focus on social mechanisms of collective identity and collective memory which facilitate a trangenrational transfer of the experience of holocaust (Bauman:1989). The theme will be developed in concepts of collective identity, collective memory, generations and trauma and the procedure of secondary analysis of available sociological texts with exemplary use of fiction litterature and interviews will be applied.

Abstract:

Židia, na ktorých sa bude zameriavať táto práca, sú skupinou, ktorá je sekulárneho životného presvedčenia a vyznačuje sa plnou asimiláciou do majoritnej spoločnosti. Hypotézou tejto práce je, že židovstvo, ktoré je absorbované a pociťované touto skupinou ako prvok sebadefinovania má svoj (spolu)základ v dedičstve holokaustu (Bauman:1989). Jedná sa o typ negatívnej identity, ktorá holokaust vníma na princípe určitého posolstva, ktoré je zároveň stigmou a ktoré sa napája históriou utrpenia židovského národa od pradávna až po šoa. Práca sa bude bližšie zameriavať na sociálne mechanizmy kolektívnej pamäte a kolektívnej identity, ktoré umožňujú transgeneračný prenos skúsenosti holokaustu (Bauman:1989). Téma bude uchopená v konceptoch kolektívnej identity, kolektívnej pamäte, generácií a traumy, za pomoci sekundárnej analýzy dostupných sociologických textov a prípadového využitia beletristickej literatúry alebo rozhovorov pre ilustratívne účely.
