From complex numbers to fractals

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá výukou komplexních čísel a fraktálů na středních školách. V úvodu byla představena problematika komplexních čísel z historického hlediska. Následně byla provedena rešerše výuky této látky na úrovni středoškolského vzdělávání. V další části byla ukázána motivační rovnice a její řešení, které vedlo k zavedení komplexních čísel. Ta byla následně definována, byly ukázány jejich možné tvary zápisu a operace s nimi doplněné o grafickou reprezentaci a podpůrné materiály v programu GeoGebra. Uvedená teorie komplexních čísel posloužila jako základ pro definici fraktálů. V práci byly ukázány zvolené fraktály počínaje Cantorovým diskontinuem až po Mandelbrotovu množinu. Jako součást práce byly vytvořeny návody pro tvorbu fraktálů ve třech provedeních pro grafický editor, GeoGebru a programovací jazyk Python. Tyto návody mají za úkol studentům přiblížit matematické definice fraktálů a principy, na základě kterých jsou tvořeny, jako např. soběpodobnost. Hlavní výhodou vytvořených návodů je, že pro jejich použití není potřeba instalace zpoplatněných programů.

Abstract:

This work deals with the teaching process of complex numbers and fractals in high schools. The complex numbers from a historical point of view were presented in the introduction. Subsequently, research was carried out on the teaching process of this subject at the level of high school education. The motivation equation and its solution were shown, which led to the introduction of complex numbers. They were defined, and their forms of notation and operations with them were presented, supplemented by a graphic representation and supporting materials in the GeoGebra program. The theory of complex numbers served as the basis for the definition of fractals. Selected fractals were shown in the paper, starting with the Cantor set and ending with the Mandelbrot set. As part of the work, instructions for the fractal creating process were designed in three versions, one for the graphic editor, GeoGebra and the Python programming language. The purpose of said instructions is to introduce mathematical definitions of fractals and the principles on which they are formed, such as self-similarity. The main advantage of the created instructions is that there is no need to install paid programs to use them.
