The idea of freedom in the philosophy of Josiah Royce and its impact on ethics.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývala filozofií a etikou Josiaha Royceho, obzvláště pak jeho pohledem na komunity a jak v nich byla vysvětlována svoboda jedince. Na základě analýzy Royceho života a obsáhlého díla byly vymezeny stěžejní myšlenky jeho filozofie. Práce byla rozdělena do tří kapitol. V první se zaměřila na metodologii práce, ve druhé na osobnost Josiaha Royceho a jeho díla, ve třetí se již zaobírala loajalitou, teorií komunit a pohledem na zlo a tím, jak se zde projevila idea svobody. Cílem této práce bylo představení filozofa Josiaha Royceho a objasnění jeho pohledu na svobodu.

Abstract:

The content of this bachelor thesis was philosophy and ethics of Josiah Royce, especially his view of the communities and how the freedom of the individual was explained in them. Based on the analysis of Royce´s life and comprehensive work, the fundamental ideas of his philosophy were outlined. Thesis was divided into three chaptors. The first one was focused on the methodology of work, the second on the personality and works of Josiah Royce, the third one was already dealing with loyalty, the theory of communities, and his view of evil and how the idea of freedom manifested here itself. The aim of this thesis was to introduce philosopher Josiah Royce and clarify his view of freedom.
